So today it begins.... 26 Jul 05
I've decided to keep my own blog after reading with interest on others' personal and political lives. My life isn't all that interesting, but I have so many different thoughts and observances about the world and lives around me that I figure I may as well add to the rest of the internet drivel. :)
A little background:
I'm a recently unemployed USAF veteran in the red state of Texas (formerly of PA). My husband and I bought our first home together a few months ago. I'm a somewhat moderate liberal (yes, I put the evil 7-letter word in my blog!) so I occasionally catch some flak for my beliefs. I have two wonderful step-children - only one of whom actually visits with us regularly. I also have four nieces and two nephews, all on my husband's side. My sister and her husband have decided to forgo having children, much to my mother's dissatisfaction.
So today in the soup:
I started my morning by turning on Judge Joe Brown. I usually keep the channel on for Texas Justice and Judge Judy. I'll watch Divorce Court if the story sounds pathetic enough. My ultimate favorite though, is Judge Hatchett. I don't know what it is about these courtroom "dramas" but I find them highly amusing and somewhat disturbing at the same time. I had to go on hiatus for a few days when I caught myself telling stories by starting out, "Well see, what happened wuz.." Sad state of affairs for our nation when this is an acceptable form of conversation.
I didn't do much else. I was supposed to go to my first planning meeting for a major fund-raising event this afternoon but the event coordinator called to cancel. Bummer.
I did get an email from a job recruiter. Unfortunately when I finally talked to the HR Rep, it was for a job that is way below my qualifications. Boo! I was lucky enough to find another position which of course I couldn't even apply for since the HR mailbox was overflowing. I left a message and I'll try again in the morning so here's wishing for luck...*clink*
The great news is I heard from a dear friend who's just moved back to Texas. We talked about getting together soon for drinks and to reminisce. Her husband is deployed - thankfully not in the war zone, but close enough.
I'm in the midst of reading a great book by Jennifer Weiner called "In Her Shoes" I think I read about it in "Marie Claire" but I can't be sure. I also just finished "Sellevision" by Augusten Burrows. I have a few other Burrows books to read and because I enjoyed the dry sarcastic wit of Sellevision I feel sure that I shall enjoy immensely.
It's about time for me to hit the hay so I can call about the job opportunity early enough in the morning to head off all of the other folks sure to drive the HR Rep crazy. Happy reading!
